Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has been all over the news lately blaming everyone from Sarah Palin to Rush Limbaugh for the tragic shooting in his county. It’s time for Republicans to set their sights on replacing him.
Dupnik is up for reelection in 2012 and should be an easy target for a Republican candidate. Over the last five years Dupnik has gone over his budget by several million dollars each year. This fact alone should be all the ammunition an opponent should need. But, Dupnik’s media-inspired vitriol against conservatives is just an added bonus that places his reelection in the crosshairs and should make the next Sheriff’s election a turkey shoot.
Clearly, Dupnik has relished his fifteen minutes of fame, but his political attacks have missed the bullseye and have scored only with the left.
Arizona Republicans should bring out the big guns and take their best shot at this sorry excuse for a Sheriff. By aiming high they should be able to put Dupnik out to pasture in 2012.
The shot across the bow has been fired. Arizona Republicans shouldn’t retreat, they should reload. (Apologies to Sarah Palin)
