Oklahoma Democrats Debate: Why Do Republicans Think They Are More Religious?

The Eastern Oklahoma County Democrats have announced that at their next monthly meeting there will be a discussion/debate that caught my attention. I’ll let them explain it:

DemoOkie – The Eastern Oklahoma County Democrats are having their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 12 at 7 p.m. in the back of AFGE Union Hall, at the corner of SE 44th & Douglas Blvd, Midwest City (across from Tinker AFB). If you need a ride, please call Steve Covert at 259-9884.

We are going to have a discussion and/or debate on “Why do Republicans believe they are more religious?”. The event will be monitored by Stephen Covert, thus it will be fair to all.

The core of our discussion will be sent to the three newspapers in East Oklahoma County, the Oklahoman, other newspapers in Oklahoma County, the two NPR radio stations and other radio stations. I will email the event to the interested parties twice. Each debate individual is expected to […] → Keep reading

Democrats, Burger King, Illegal Immigration and Hypocrisy

Yesterday, Burger King agreed to buy the Canadian restaurant chain Tim Hortons for about $11.4 billion, creating one of the largest fast-food corporations in the world. As part of the deal, Burger King will move its home up north to Canada where corporate taxes are significantly lower than the United States. Under current U.S. law, a company merging with a foreign company can move its headquarters abroad and take advantage of lower taxes, as long as at least twenty percent of its shares are held by the foreign company’s shareholders once the merger is complete. Management and operations of the merging company are still allowed to remain in the U.S. after the merger.

The news has angered some Democrats, who complain that corporate inversions should not be allowed. Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI) has proposed that Congress pass inversion legislation to prevent corporations from moving abroad. He said, “The reported deal with Burger King, an American company, highlights the need for […] → Keep reading

Independent Voter Registration Skyrockets

Newly registered voters in Oklahoma have been largely registering as independents. Since the state Election Board purged 145,294 inactive voters earlier this year there have been 4,582 new registrations as independents. Republicans have added 1,544 voters but the Democrats have lost 3,306 voters.

The differing opinions on the reasons for the change are interesting to note. Dave Weston, Oklahoma State Republican Party chairman said the increase in independent registrations reflects Democrats who feel disenfranchised. Wallace Collins, Oklahoma Democrat Party chairman said he wasn’t certain about the reason for the registration trends. Mr. Collins doesn’t seem to be able to achieve any success for the Democrats in Oklahoma. Even though the Democrats have a 887,724 to 850,854 lead over registered Republican voters the Republicans hold every statewide elected office, a huge majority in both houses of the state legislature and every seat in Oklahoma’s Congressional delegation. Well done, Mr. Collins!

But back to the independents. Since the year 2000 independent voter […] → Keep reading

White House Takes Revenge On Oklahoma

The White House denied Gov. Mary Fallin’s request for assistance to aid individuals and businesses in Woodward County that were hard hit by last weekend’s deadly tornado. Fallin said she is disappointed in the decision but that the state is continuing to work to bring assistance to those impacted by the storm. She announced late Friday that the state will now request a disaster declaration for Woodward County through the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Top 25 Things You Have to Believe to Be a Democrat Today

This appears to have been written while Bill Clinton was President, but all are still correct. I located this list on an old computer and it was not sourced. If you know the original author or source, please let me know so I can give the proper credit. Drug addiction is a disease that should be treated with compassion and understanding…unless the addict is a Conservative radio host. The United States should be subservient to the United Nations. Our highest authority is not God and the U.S. Constitution, but a collective of tin pot dictators (and their appeasers) and the U.N. charter. Government should relax drug laws regardless of the abuse potential, but should pass new anti-gun laws every time a gun is misused by a criminal. Calls for increased security after a terrorist attack are “political opportunism,” but calls for more gun control after a criminal’s spree killing is “a logical solution.” “It Takes a Village” means everything you […] → Keep reading
