For more than a year and a half now, the left has been suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome. If youβre not familiar with that term, a user-entry in the Urban Dictionary defines it as βa mental dysfunction causing those detractors with hateful thoughts and feelings about Donald Trump to go unhinged.β
Justin Raimondo wrote a piece in the LA Times back in December 2016, in which he outlines the varying stages of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS).
In the first stage of the disease, victims lose all sense of proportion. The president-electβs every tweet provokes a firestorm, as if 140 characters were all it took to change the world.
The mid-level stages of TDS have a profound effect on the victimβs vocabulary: Sufferers speak a distinctive language consisting solely of hyperbole.
As TDS progresses, the afflicted lose the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality.
In the advanced stages of the disease, the afflicted lose touch with reality. Opinion is unmoored from fact. Life resembles a dark fairy tale in which the villain β Trump β is an amalgam of all the worst tyrants in history, past and present, while the heroes βTrumpβs critics β are akin to the resistance fighters of World War II.
TDS victims routinely compare Trump to Hitler: Time magazine ran an opinion piece that asked βJust how similar is Donald Trump to Hitler?β The answer: βThe comparison between Hitler and Trump is so poignantβ because βboth men represent their personal character as the antidote to all social and political problems.β
If you ask a TDS victim what might help them feel better, theyβll use the word βnormalize.β As in, we mustnβt βnormalizeβ Trump. What theyβre really saying is that normal means of dealing with him arenβt enough. Which raises the question: If heβs another Hitler, if heβs in league with Putin, then why is assassination out of the question? Poke a TDS victim and youβll find they donβt think that βsolutionβ is out of the question at all.
This is the final stage of the TDS epidemic: violence against a democratically elected leader. Unless a cure for TDS is found, this is where we are headed.
After the Roseanne brouhaha yesterday, Iβve come to believe that there are Trump supporters who also suffer from a form of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
But first, a very quick recap is in order. Yesterday, Roseanne Barr tweeted that former top Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was the product of a Muslim and an ape. ABC canceledΒ Roseanneβs show and disowned her. Roseanne took to Twitter to apologize and later blamed her βlate-night tweetingβ on Ambien.
Sure, Iβve heard of racism being a side-effect of Ambien. [eyeroll]
But, now to the Trumpers suffering from TDS. Because Roseanneβs character on her show is a Trump supporter, that means to Trumpers that Roseanne must be defended, no matter what she may have said or done in the past. Full disclosure here, Iβve never seen even one episode of Roseanneβs show, nor will I ever. Roseanne Barr is a vile, disgusting woman and her past is rife with examples supporting that statement.
After the George Zimmerman-Trayvon Martin shooting, Roseanne tweeted out the address for Zimmermanβs parents putting their lives in danger. Sheβs tweeted about βJewish mind control.β She promoted a concert by a singer with a history of Holocaust denial and defended him by calling any detractors βfβing morons.β On multiple occasions, she has referred to Israel as a βNazi state.β She referred to Hillary Clinton adviser Huma Weiner as βa filthy, Nazi whore.β In 2011, she appeared at the Occupy Wall Street protests and spoke in favor of them. She stated that Wall Street bankers should be forced to give up any income over $100 million, be sent to re-education camps and executed by beheading if they resist. Her rendition of our national anthem at a 1990 baseball game was disgraceful.
In 2012 she ran for president on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket, a left-wing party committed to feminism, socialism and ecology. Her running mate was leftist, anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan. Her support for Trump in 2016 wasnβt so much because she agreed with his positions, but because she thought Hillary Clinton is corrupt.
And now we come back to the present, with Roseanneβs despicable tweet about Jarrett. She is a Trump supporter and so is her character on her popular show. That means she must be defended, no matter what she has done or said. That is a form of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
It did not surprise me to watch Twitter yesterday and see tweet after tweet defending Roseanne and bashing ABC for canceling her show.
Just a very tiny sample:
If #Roseanne wasn’t a #Trump supporter this would never been cancelled! #boycottABC

See, let me tell yβall how it is: if @therealroseanne was a left/democrat/liberal supporter, itβd be just fine. Ok, apologize and move on. But, because she is a Trump supporter, itβs time to crucify her-hypocrisy at its finest. And everyone here KNOWS Iβm right. #thefive

Now, to be fair, I am not saying all Trump supporters suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome. But it seems clear to me that a large number do. It also seems clear that Trump Derangement Syndrome is an equal opportunity disorder that afflicts sufferers all over the political spectrum. And there is no cure.
