Earlier this week, Rev. Jeremiah Wright spoke to a crowd in Wilmington, DE at a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast and said that one branch of the Tea Party is nothing but a 2.0 upgrade of lynch mobs. He decried the opposition to President Obama, parroting the leftist mantra that anyone who disagrees with Obama is obviously a racist.
Delaware Online – “Tell your children we have some unfinished business on the agenda with the voting rights bill gutted by a right-wing dominated Supreme Court … with mass incarceration robbing black and brown communities of any positive future … with jobs being shipped overseas … with one branch of the tea party being nothing but a 2.0 upgrade of the lynch mobs … with some folks doing everything they can to get that black man out of their White House.”
Many in the largely black crowd of more than 400 people gave Wright a standing ovation and dozens swarmed him afterward to take pictures and get him to sign their programs.
“I think it was an excellent speech,” said Bob Millette, a sociology professor at Lincoln University.
New Castle County Council President Christopher Bullock, a pastor who has known Wright for years, said that to focus on just the words “lynch mob” is to take Wright out of context. He said the speech should be judged on more than just one line.
“You have to understand the context and audience. What he said was specific for that audience based on his opinion,” Bullock said. “I think what he was trying to say was we still have some challenges and obstacles facing us before the dream is fulfilled.”
Bullock also noted that tea party supporters “should sweep around their own front door before they sweep around someone else’s door.”
“They have said some things … that have not been appropriate and some things that were downright racist and not acceptable,” Bullock said, referring to allegations about Obama’s birth certificate and talk about impeachment. “All those things were disproven and those positions also have a racial undertone that is not American.”
If Rev. Wright truly believes that lynch mobs have any relation to the Tea Party, either now or historically, he is among many who are completely ignorant of American history and the history of their own Democratic Party. As I outlined in my post The Real Lynching Party more than two years ago it is the Democrats who lynched blacks. It is the Democrats who created the Ku Klux Klan. It is the Democrats who created Jim Crow laws. It is the Democrats who opposed anti-lynching laws in Congress. It is the Democrats who opposed civil rights legislation and the Civil Rights Act. And it is now the Democrats and their entitlement policies that have made the federal government the ‘sugar daddy’ to blacks and enslaved them once again. Dr. King fought to free blacks from the chains of inequality, but Wright, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have made themselves and the government the new slave masters of the blacks.
If Bullock wants to talk about sweeping around the front door he need look no further than the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP. Last weekend the head of that chapter referred to Senator Tim Scott, the Senate’s only black Republican, as “a ventriloquist dummy for the extreme right wing.”
Wright and his ilk need only look in the mirror if they want to see who the racists are. They and their Democrat friends do all they can to keep the blacks on the government plantation. Keeping blacks slaves to entitlement gives them their platforms from which to spew their hate and, more importantly, the donations that make them rich. The only lynch mob mentality I see going on is Wright and other black leaders who attack those who would rescue blacks from their slave masters. And since it was Democrats who originated the lynch mob, I suppose it is now Wright and those like him who are the real Lynch Mob 2.0.
Right on target, Charles. As is usually the case with your posts. The face that so many black leaders forget the role the Democratic Party played in racial tensions earlier in our history is macabre. The fact that they so easily accuse the Republican Party of the racism they are guilty of themselves is even more so.
I suspect many of them secretly know the truth but ignore it because it benefits them financially and politically. And since American history isn’t really taught in schools anymore, the low information voters will believe whatever these people and the media tell them. Do a ‘man on the street’ survey and probably a lot of people would say that it was the Republicans who did all the things that the Democrats really did.
