Jesus was wrong. So says His Excellency Barack the 1st.
At the Catholic-Evangelical Leadership Summit yesterday, Obama quotes part of a verse from the Gospel of Matthew in a manner directly opposite of what Jesus is quoted as having said. I’m sure the Obama worshippers will claim his remark was taken out of context, so here is a transcript of what he said.
“One of the things I’m always concerned about is cynicism,” Obama said. “My chief of staff, Denis McDonough, we take walks around the South Lawn, usually when the weather is good. And a lot of it is policy talk, sometimes it’s just talk about values. And one of our favorite sayings is our job is to guard against cynicism, particularly in this town. And I think it’s important for us to guard against cynicism and not buy the idea that the poor will always be with us and there’s nothing we can do, because there’s a lot we can do. The question is, do we have the political will, the communal will to do something about it.”
And from Matthew, Chapter 26:
Matthew 26 – 6 Now when Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came up to him with an alabaster flask of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he reclined at table. 8 And when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste? 9 For this could have been sold for a large sum and given to the poor.” 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? For she has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.
Obama also participated in a panel discussion at Georgetown University and said that churches should focus more on poverty instead of abortion and gay marriage.
Breitbart – President Obama suggested that people of faith should focus more on helping the poor, instead of focusing on divisive issues such as gay marriage and abortion.
“I think it would be powerful for our faith-based organizations to speak out on this in a more forceful fashion,” he said, admitting that his wish might sound “self-interested” because he had disagreements with Christian and Catholic organizations about gay marriage and abortion.
“There is great caring and great concern, but when it comes to what are you really going to the mat for, what’s the defining issue … this is often times viewed as a ‘nice to have’ relative to an issue like abortion,” Obama said.
He argued that churches should spend more time pursuing “powerful” ideas such as helping those in poverty in order to attract more followers.
For someone who claims to be a Christian, Obama seems more than willing to dismiss Christian doctrine and replace it with the leftist’s doctrine. Now, of course Christians are supposed to help the poor and we are commanded to do so. And according to Jesus, we will always have the poor with us. But Obama and his leftist friends would have people believe that a utopia is possible, where there would be no more poor if we would just follow him and not stand in the way of progressivism.
Give up this notion of a Biblical marriage and give up this antiquated idea of saving unborn children! Turn all your attention to ending poverty, because I, Barack the 1st, your new savior, have declared it to be possible!
No, he didn’t actually say that, but it’s what he wants us to believe. To leftists like Obama, Christianity and the truths in the Bible just get in the way of the direction they want to take our country. By trying to get Christians to focus only on the poor he is also trying to get some of the focus off of gay marriage and abortion. And there are plenty of leftists claiming to be Christians who are more than willing to go along with that. Not only will they go along with it but they will actively promote gay marriage and abortion. Last month I read of an Episcopal church in Kansas that held a fundraiser for the abortion mill Planned Parenthood and also a Presbyterian church in New Orleans that held a “Stand With Women” rally in support of a new Planned Parenthood abortion facility in the city.
Christianity as defined by Obama and the other godless leftists is rooted in cutting people off from any spiritual path not devoted to liberalism. One of the core tenets of liberalism is that poverty is caused by oppressive, rich people who need to be brought to their knees by taxation and redistribution of wealth.
Obama is just preaching from the leftist’s bible. Apparently, it’s the only one he reads.
