Baseball Hall of Famer and home run king Hank Aaron was speaking yesterday at an event celebrating his record-setting home run and he took the opportunity to compare Republicans who oppose Barack Obama to the Ku Klux Klan. After saying that Republicans are hindering Obama’s job performance he said, “Sure, this country has a black president, President Obama is left with his foot stuck in the mud from all the Republicans with the way he’s treated. The bigger difference is that back then they had hoods. Now they have neckties and starched shirts.”
The real racists are the people like Hank Aaron who believe that it isn’t possible to oppose Obama for his actions without being a racist. I would ask Aaron and those like him, does this mean that when you opposed George W. Bush that you did so based solely on his white skin, which makes you a racist? Is that what these people truly believe, that political support is based solely on race? Apparently it is, since I have heard many people say that skin color is why Obama had to be elected. Just yesterday on Sean Hannity’s radio show he had actress Stacey Dash as a guest. She has come to oppose Obama and has received a huge backlash for saying so, but she admitted to Hannity that in 2008 she voted for Obama because she believed it was time we had a black president.
Aside from his blatant racism, Aaron is also demonstrating his complete ignorance about the history of the Ku Klux Klan. The KKK was started by southern Democrats. Southern Democrats used the KKK and the Knights of the White Camelia to support white supremacy, terrorize, intimidate and murder blacks and white Republicans. Democrats were swept into power in the south by using these tactics. It was Democrats who passed strict voter registration laws that were designed to prevent blacks from voting. It was Democrats who used terror and lynching to enforce Jim Crow laws. It was Democrats who killed nearly 200 anti-lynching bills in Congress from 1882 to 1968. It was Democrats who opposed Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It was Democrats who opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1960. It was Democrats who opposed integration. It was Democrats who turned the fire hoses on civil rights marchers and released the police dogs. It was Democrats who supported the Dred Scott decision, classifying blacks as property. It was Democrats who, for fifty years, continually reelected a former Exalted Cyclops of the Ku Klux Klan to the United States Senate – Robert Byrd.
If Hank Aaron wants to see racism he need look no further than in a mirror. His ignorant statement about Republicans proves who the real racist is.
My apologies for not commenting sooner. Life really does get in the way of some things, regardless of how we try to allocate our time.
It seems that we hear stories like this nearly every day. Prominent black people making fools out of themselves, trying to make the false point that the only reason Obama is opposed is racism. I am sick to death of hearing that lie repeated as if it were the Gospel of Jesus. If they could only hear how ridiculous they sound?
Life is indeed a cruel master at times.
But they don’t think they sound ridiculous. I’m sure some of these people are truly ignorant about history and really believe the Republicans started the KKK, etc, but most know the truth and just blatantly lie because it suits their political goals.
I completely agree. Not only is Aaron a racist, he’s an idiot. There is simply no other explanation for a black man who associates himself with the Democratic Party …
Exactly right. With the Democratic Party’s racial history it is bewildering to me why black people continue to support them. The only two reasons it could be is they are uneducated and know nothing about history and also the Democrats buy them off with welfare so they will continue to vote Dem. Bribes. To my mind, black people are selling out their slave-ancestors and every black person who fought for their civil rights whenever they cast a vote for a Democrat. Thanks for commenting!
I had seen that cartoon before and loved it. I also feel your commentary compliments it extremely well. I had lost all respect for Mark McGuire. Now, I have lost my respect for Mr. Aaron. Liberals are the bane of our country – and school system.
