The campaign trail was the easy part for Janet Barresi, we all knew the real battle would begin after the election. That certainly proved true after yesterday’s disgusting state Board of Education meeting.
The board refused key Barresi staffing requests, all qualified, and even called one Barresi staffer “worthless” due to the fact she would be taking maternity leave during legislative session. There was a clear unprofessional and partisan tone throughout the proceedings.
“We always knew Janet Barresi would need us more after the election than during it,” said Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Matt Pinnell. “The State Board of Education and its status quo education positions are the last bastion for Oklahoma Democrats, and they will fight like hell to keep it from changing.”
House Democrat Minority Leader Scott Inman defended the Board decision, and in doing so, the decades of failed education policy by Democrat leaders and their union allies.
“Since we are on the subject of education, here’s a word the State Board of Education and Democrat Minority Leader Scott Inman need to learn: M-A-N-D-A-T-E,” said Pinnell. “Oklahoma voters overwhelmingly elected Janet Barresi to reform public education policy in Oklahoma, it was a clear mandate, and it’s now time to let her do the job.
“We strongly support the calls for Rozell’s resignation and an immediate legislative review of the Board of Education’s authority and membership to determine if changes should be made to better serve Oklahoma’s students,” concluded Pinnell.
