Using Trayvon for Profit

To be clear from the start, I make no claims to know what happened that day.  Did George Zimmerman murder Trayvon?  I don’t know.  Did Trayvon attack Zimmerman and get what he deserved?  I don’t know.  And, at this point, neither does anyone else.

But, that doesn’t stop some from seizing this event for their own selfish gain.  And the ones attempting to profit from this are the same people screaming the loudest about “injustice”.

new black panthersLet’s start with the New Blank Panthers.  They have offered a $10,000 bounty for George Zimmerman.  I have yet to see any statement from them on what they would do with Zimmerman, should they get their hands on him.

New Black Panther leader Mikhail Muhammad announced the reward during a protest last Saturday. When asked whether he was inciting violence, Muhammad replied defiantly: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.”

Muhammad said the group’s national chairman, Dr. Malik Zulu Shabaz of Washington, D.C.is receiving donations from black entertainers and athletes. They hope to collect $1 million by next week, Muhammad said.  The party said they would not release the names of donors nor would they provide documentation to support the existence of donations.

Next we have Trayvon’s own mother, Sybrina Fulton.  She has has sought to trademark two phrases: “Justice for Trayvon” and “I Am Trayvon.”  Her lawyer claimed Fulton wants to safeguard intellectual property rights for “projects that will assist other families who experience similar tragedies.”

When a reporter asked if Fulton had any designs to make a profit, the lawyer said, “None.”

Uh huh.

trayvon tshirtMany others have seized the opportunity to make a profit from merchandise.  EBay has several hundred Trayvon Martin items for sale.  Websites spreadshirt.com and cafepress.com are among those making a profit from Trayvon’s death.

President Obama has also jumped into the fray for some face time with the media, saying if he’d had a son he would look like Trayvon.

The media outlets have also profited.   There’s ample news to report, plenty of incendiary guests for the talk shows, and race baiters like Al Sharpton can create the news by leading a rally and then talk about it by reporting it on his show.
It’s in the best interests of all these people to keep the Martin & Zimmerman story going for as long as possible.  For the most profit possible they all need people to stay engaged and interested.  Angry and outraged.  The more the fire is stoked, the more the profits will roll in.
Again, I have no idea what really happened that day.  But I do know profiteers of death when I see them.  And these people are clearly making a buck off this event, voicing outrage with their mouth while holding their hand out for for more dollars.  And that is truly outrageous.

It’s totally shameful, that’s what it is. It is a bad thing that Travon Martin was killed. It doesn’t matter that he was shot, or that it wasn’t a black man who killed him. It’s just a bad thing, overall. Making it worse is the way the media has responded, as well as some of the black community. They have/are not acting responsibly.

  • No, they are not acting responsibly, which isn’t surprising at all since their tactics never change. I would have been more surprised if this hasn’t been blown into the circus it’s become. When the profits stop rolling in and the ratings start the inevitable dip, the dialogue will change to the next ‘outrage’.

  • I think this is a very well stated goal. To research who is behind all the left wing violence, the fact that we can’t seem to find any one group that is organizing this, makes me wonder how much the government is involved in the riots. It seems also that some of the Occupy Wall Streeters are back. Great post and great blog. Glad I stumbled upon it. Check out my site. We seem to have similar views.
